About el Museo Histórico de Placilla
Museo Histórico is a community museum that is located just outside Valparaíso, the capital of the Region. It was founded in 2009 under the wing of a Cultural Centre, an organization that promotes the culture and history of the area and the country. It was born due the need of the locals to have a place to store different objects they found as children, such as prehistoric objects and gun shelves. One of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War in Chile was fought near Placilla and this became a fundamental part of the identity of this area. The treasures the children found belonged to other times, long ago, but they became part of their daily childhood and were later the inspiration for long conversations and speculations about where these objects came from and what stories they tell.
Muséo Histórico is the first community museum in Valparaíso with wide ambitions to grow and tell the story of the area. They are dedicated to preserving, researching, promoting, valuing, sensitizing and spread the heritage of this area of Valparaíso and its relationship with the Region and the country.
